In the heart of Jalisco, Mexico, Casa Maestri stands as a quiet testament to what happens when family heritage meets meticulous craftsmanship. As the global demand for premium, authentic tequila continues to grow, co-founder Celia Maestri has quietly guided the distillery – not by chasing temporary market trends, but by staying true to traditional methods and a deeply personal philosophy of integrity.
Celia’s story in the spirits industry spans over 40 years, rooted in the lessons she learned from her parents. In 1951, her family established Licores Veracruz in Mexico. Growing up, Celia watched her parents handle every single aspect of the business from high-level sales to the daily manual labor on the warehouse floor.
“That was my true inspiration,” Celia recalls. “Seeing the dedication it took to manage a business from the ground up gave me the dream to one day own a distillery and carry their history forward.”

In 2008, alongside her husband Michael Maestri whose own family brought decades of distribution experience from the United States she turned that dream into reality by founding Destiladora del Valle de Tequila, globally known today as Casa Maestri.
Located in the historic town of Tequila, Casa Maestri is built on the principle that making great spirits is a holistic craft. The distillery is dedicated strictly to traditional tequila production methods, ensuring consistency and a true expression of Mexican terroir.
However, Casa Maestri has built its international reputation by offering partners and clients an all-encompassing, collaborative experience. Rather than simply distilling liquid, Celia’s team provides full hands-on support through every step of the brand-building process:
-
Concept development and trademark registration.
-
Regulatory compliance and export logistics.
-
Complete artisanal product design, famously recognized for its stunning, custom-made ceramic bottles that pay tribute to traditional Mexican charrería culture.
Today, this dedication to quality has placed Casa Maestri among the top-tier distilleries in Mexico, currently ranked #9 out of 157 active producers.
For Celia, running a successful business is deeply tied to how you treat your people. A passionate advocate for mentorship, she spends a significant part of her day guiding others, encouraging her team and clients to believe in their own ideas.
As a woman-owned enterprise operating in a historically male-dominated sector, Casa Maestri champions diverse leadership. Today, women make up 95% of the staff across all levels and departments of the company. Celia credits this to the natural focus, dedication, and multi-tasking capabilities that female professionals bring to the facility every day.
In an era where original ideas are quickly copied, Celia remains a fierce advocate for absolute authenticity. “Be original, be different, and trust your own convictions,” she advises aspiring entrepreneurs. “No one will sell your ideas better than you do.”

Ultimately, Celia does not measure her personal success by material wealth or distillery rankings. Instead, true success means passing down a healthy, respected business to the next generation ensuring that her children and grandchildren continue to uphold the highest standards of tequila excellence with the same humility and integrity she learned from her parents.
